December 17, 2007 (Washington, D.C.)—Natural products retailers and suppliers from across the country will gather to exchange trade information, learn about the industry, and peruse booths showcasing industry’s best products at the Natural Products Association’s 71st annual trade show and convention — Natural MarketPlace 2008 — July 17 - 19, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Natural MarketPlace is the largest single event hosted by the nation’s oldest and most influential industry trade association, where retailers, suppliers, manufacturers and other leaders come together to discuss industry trends, explore business opportunities, and network. The association’s event will again take place at the world-class Sands Expo and Convention Center and The Venetian Resort Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.
Natural MarketPlace 2008 offers a new and exciting schedule expanded in response to survey results from industry retailers. This year’s trade show will open on Friday and continue through Saturday, allowing retailers plenty of time to enjoy the show’s well-known relaxed and congenial atmosphere that encourages networking and relationship building. In addition, Thursday’s schedule will include the highly regarded educational conference with some of the natural products industry’s most insightful and provocative speakers. The educational opportunities available at Natural MarketPlace make it unique among industry trade shows and an invaluable resource for learning more about all aspects of the industry, whether you are an exhibitor or own a health food store. Past conference seminars have focused on key topics such as consumer and product trends, business improvement, new discoveries in nutrition research, and preparing for legislative and regulatory developments, such as our widely popular good manufacturing practices (GMPs) training program.
Participants can anticipate another stellar show, with both top-of- the-line exhibitors and experienced retailers who make up the core of our industry and innovative new products and exhibitors making their debut in the industry. Eighty percent of Natural MarketPlace attendees have direct purchasing power, and 35 percent of attendees report annual sales in excess of $1 million, making for an informed audience for our large numbers of high-profile exhibitors. Attendees will see the hottest new natural products from innovative, top-quality exhibitors including dietary supplements, functional foods and beverages, health and beauty aids, sports nutrition, herbals, organics, homeopathics, pet products, natural/green home products and much more. As with past Natural Products Association trade shows, natural product retailers are invited to walk the show floor free of charge.
“As a health food store owner, Natural MarketPlace has long been a key annual event to discover new innovations that keep my store at the cutting edge of our industry,” said Deborah Short of Shawnee, Oklahoma. “In addition, as an educational experience, Natural MaketPlace has given me the opportunity to stay abreast of new regulations and trends in living a natural lifestyle and has really helped me expand my business.”
In addition to exciting trade show exhibits, attendees can enjoy special events on the show floor such as the annual People’s Choice Awards blind taste-test competition and live product and service demonstrations or the always anticipated product launches and scientific poster sessions Participants are also invited to attend other show events such as the popular President’s Reception, our keynote event and the association’s annual business meeting.
As part of the Natural Products Association’s ongoing effort to best serve our members, we encourage members to suggest event activities or seminars that would enhance the Natural MarketPlace experience. Because Natural MarketPlace is one of many educational events the association holds throughout the year, we aim to present the most valuable and pertinent information for our industry.
Registration for both attendees and exhibitors is open. For more information about Natural MarketPlace 2008 call (202) 223-0101, ext. 109 or e-mail conventions@naturalproductsassoc.org . Details are also available at www.naturalproductsassoc.org/tradeshow.

INECE is pleased to announce that it will hold its 8th International Conference on 5-11 April 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa.
INECE’s triennial international conferences bring together environmental compliance and enforcement practitioners from more than 80 countries and organizations to build partnerships for enforcement cooperation and to share a wide range of skills and experiences that improve compliance with international and domestic environmental laws. The 7th Conference (2005) provided training on INECE's principles of compliance and enforcement course and fostered the development of a new compliance and enforcement network for the Maghreb region. The Conference resulted in the Marrakech Statement and Call to Action on making law work for people, environment, and sustainable development.
The 8th Conference will open with two days dedicated to local capacity building and networking events. The subsequent five days will feature action-oriented thematic workshops, distinguished keynote speakers, and networking opportunities for over 150 invited participants, and will include a day for field visits to sites of innovative environmental enforcement initiatives in South Africa.
Central themes of the Conference will include "Strategic Management of Environmental Compliance & Enforcement Programs," "Detecting Noncompliance," "Transboundary Compliance," "Biodiversity and Compliance," "Climate Change and Compliance," and "Compliance Promotion and Social Aspects." INECE will be releasing a Call for Papers on these and other environmental compliance and enforcement topics in advance of the Conference.
South Africa's Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, which is supporting the Conference, noted that "[e]nvironmental compliance and enforcement are becoming high profile issues in South Africa in the context of high economic growth and development, ...the ongoing protection of our biodiversity and protected areas, and the required adaptation for climate change. We therefore welcome the attention that the INECE Conference will bring to environmental compliance and enforcement in South and Southern Africa."
Additional information on the 8th Conference, including the Call for Papers, will be made available in the coming months. Conference participation is by invitation only; nominations will be made through the regional compliance and enforcement networks.

The Geneva Forum: Towards Global Access to Health brings together on an equal basis all actors involved in access to health – including international, national and local organizations; government agencies; the private sector; hospitals; universities; civil society; and most importantly those who need care. It provides an interactive and dynamic platform for critical reflexion on the complexity of global access to health.
Under the flags of equity, partnership, and capacity building, it strives to link policies and guidelines to actual practice in the field. Combining scientific rigour and powerful testimonies, the Geneva Health Forum aims to provide integrated approaches and responses to global health challenges. Geneva, headquarters of numerous international organizations active in the health sector, provides a unique environment for this event.
This second edition of the Geneva Health Forum will maintain the broad range of themes considered as priorities: access to health systems; health and inequities; access to drugs, vaccines and diagnosis; civil society and social issues in health; and capacity building and partnerships.
The Geneva Health Forum 2008 places special emphasis on the strengthening and integration of
health systems and the importance of the global health workforce. The year 2008, the 30th anniversary of the Alma Ata Declaration, offers a special occasion to revisit the primary health care model within the current health services context, marked by the increasing burden of chronic diseases and HIV/AIDS, the potential of new drugs and technologies, and the growing role of the private sector and global health initiatives.
Health systems cannot be addressed without a critical look at the current crisis of the global health workforce. The Forum will focus on key initiatives and best practices that address issues such as motivation, working environment, migration, and gaps in competencies. The role that universities, hospitals, and training institutions can play in this domain will be reviewed in light of innovative partnerships and programmes.

Since 1984 when the world was informed of the menace of HIV/AIDS and our subsequent waking up from lack of action, the world has being mobilizing itself to fight this deadly menace. Each day, each minute and each second brings new challenges to all of us; from the danger of stigma to the what seems like an unwinnable war of ARV drug resistance. As the world keeps wondering what next, this conference will bring together all stakeholders in HIV/AIDS and for this year, we want to look at those challenges and how we can hypothetically address them.
Attending this conference will not be only academically viable but also attendees will have the opportunities of meeting some commercial and non-commercial bodies whose efforts in HIV/AIDS are quite phenomenon and secondly it will give the avenue to network especially with the Africa Health Research Organization's highly innovative HIV/AIDS Working Group.
The event from this year will be held annually. See you at London 2007
