This is a conference about people, about the ways they interact with one another and with the physical, legal, social, and economic environments that surround them. While the conference is about crime prevention, there is much to be learned from programs and projects that are not specifically focused on either crime or prevention.

Introduction: The political freedom that we won in 1947 is only the first step towards achieving the goal of ¡¥Purna Swaraj¡¦ for India. We also need to win economic, social and moral freedoms as pointed out by Mahatma Gandhi in a letter written on 27th Jan. 1948, just 3 days before his martyrdom. This is the unfinished task bequeathed to posterity by the Father of the nation and other ¡¥freedom fighters¡¦ who laid down their lives for the political freedom of this country. Of these three-fold freedoms that are yet to be won for India, the ¡¥moral freedom¡¦ is the most important one at this critical moment in the history of our nation. Without moral freedom no other freedom can be sustained. Hence, a ¡¥Second Freedom Struggle¡¦ has become an imperative of the era to liberate India from the evil forces and win moral freedom for our country.
Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram: Gandhigram Rural University www.ruraluniv.ac.in was founded on Gandhian Principles. It dedicates its services to Rural Development. The University is known for its Community Development and Extension Programmes as well as social research activities. The Alumni of the University engage themselves in various tasks focused on National Development. They play a vital role in the National Development with NGOs participation and partnership. This reputed University has a track record in organizing, conducting conferences and setting trends at the National and International level. It is now well poised for the Second Freedom Struggle.
Location: Gandhigram is located 55 km away from Madurai on the northern side. The nearest airport is Madurai and the nearest railway station is Dindigul and Ambathurai, which is closer to Gandhigram Rural University. All the trains stop at Ambathurai except a few trains.
National Regeneration Movement (NRM): The National Regeneration Movement was initiated by Swami Sachidananda Bharathi at Hyderabad during the Golden Jubilee of Indian Independence for moral regeneration and national reconstruction of India under the patronage of Swami Ranganathananda and with the active support of Bharat Ratna Sri.C.Subramaniam. During this 10th anniversary of NRM Swami Sachidananda Bharathi is undertaking an all-India peace pilgrimage to unite the citizens of this country for the mission of national regeneration and to seek their active participation in transforming NRM into a ¡¥Second Freedom Struggle¡¦ for the moral freedom of India. Swamiji started his all-India peace pilgrimage which he has termed ¡¥Desh Vandana-2007¡¦ from New Delhi on 30th Jan 2007 with a self-dedication at Rajghat and a prayer meeting at Gandhi Smriti. Gandhigram Rural University also wishes to play a humble yet valuable part in this historic mission
About the Seminar: Soon after the conclusion of ¡¥Desh Vandana-2007¡¦ on 30th Jan 2008 at Gandhi Mandapam, Kanyakumari, there will be a 3-day National Seminar from 1st to 3rd February 2008 at Gandhigram Rural University on ¡§Gandhian Liberation Techniques for the National Regeneration Movement (Second Freedom Struggle)¡¨. We are glad that our University is given the opportunity to host this National Seminar.
Those attending this national seminar are expected to play leadership roles in the NRM. I am informed that you are keen to join us in the national seminar. I extend a warm welcome to you to Gandhigram Rural University. Please fill up the enclosed registration form and send it to us along with the registration fee of Rs.300/- drawn in favour of Navasrushti International Trust payable at Ernakulam. The 7th LATT Conference will be held March 26-29, 2008 at Virginia Tech. While abstracts on any aspect of Latin American Theatre may be submitted the general focus of the conference will be the question of the term itself "Latin American Theatre" and what that rubric has come to mean in cultural, political and geographical terms since the first LATT conference was held in 1982. the objective is to erase artificial regional and national frontiers, incorporate theatre people working in many regions and in different languages, and at the same time channel the dialogue toward some of the larger cultural issues that now engage Latin American and US Latino/a theatre scholars and practitioners, such as translation, adaptation, migration and the effects of globalization on cultural identities.
