This conference has a twofold purpose a learning opportunity and an invitation to join a network. It presents an opportunity for top level school leaders from all over the world to meet in Stockholm, Sweden and learn more about global trends and changes in school policy and education worldwide as well as focusing on local experiences and conclusions for school improvement. The conference offers the unique possibility for school leaders to reflect on their role as leaders between political demands and pedagogical practice. Together, we will raise important and urgent questions about changes in education, how to prepare our young for global and local challenges. In keynote speeches and in seminars we will take part of the latest and most important knowledge about the difficult role of leading a process of change in education. This is an opportunity to share experience and learn from colleagues around the world and to create a network for future sharing.
The conference 2008 is the first event out of three. The next occasion will be 2010 and the last in 2012. In between there will be networking activities.
The conference in 2008 will bring together top level school leaders, scholars, educators to exchange experiences on:
national school systems in a global context
leadership in a world of change
chart for the challenges of globalisation
quality assessment as a tool for change
cultural encounters
We are pleased to invite you to this summit which will be the starting point of a global network of top level school leaders school superintendents, school district leaders.
The conference is organised by the City of Stockholm, the Swedish National Agency for School Improvement, The Swedish Association of School Superintendents and the International School Connection.

WINDS OF CHANGE: SETTING SAIL FOR MANITOWOC
*Deadline for conference proposals: Friday, November 16*
The 2008 WAAL Conference Planning Committee invites proposals for sessions. Proposals and recommendations for presentations, panels, workshops, and poster sessions are welcome. Whether you’re a returning WAAL conference attendee or a new WAAL member please consider the opportunity to discover everything that WAAL 2008 offers by being an active participant!
The Winds of Change are constant in academic libraries. Today continuous changes in our users, technology, staff, environments, etc. create challenges and opportunities for libraries. Changes that you are experiencing in your library can lend itself to many great topics for a WAAL presentation, panel, workshop, or poster session. Below are just a few topic areas ideas:
•Methods in training and engaging student workers and staff
•Discovering new methods of outreach and marketing
•Identifying trends in collection development and acquisitions
•Understanding how libraries work together
•Mentoring programs that engage staff and/or students
•Workplace ergonomics
If you are interested in planning or presenting a program related to these suggested topics or another topic of your choice, please draft a brief proposal which details:
1.Abstract of the program (300 words or less)
2.Presenter names(s), institutional affiliation(s), and contact information
3.Format (presentation, panel discussion, poster session, etc.)

Education and Development Conference 2008 aims to provide the participants with an analysis of the importance of education, educational systems and its impact worldwide. Each participant should be able to understand how different cultures, political, social and economical environments influence educational systems and development and other way around. This knowledge paired with the participants' improved communication skills and inspiration can be a powerful tool to inflict change in their own communities and organizations.
The Conference will welcome scholars, NGO representatives, corporate and Governmental representatives that are connected with a mutual goal- promoting the importance of education and its impact to social development. We hope we will have a pleasure to welcome you at this highly challenging and exciting international event and we look forward to meeting you in March 2008 in Bangkok!
